Northeast Electric Power University’s “Seeking” Appears at 2023 China International College Student Fashion Week

At 13:00 on May 19, 2023 China International Student Fashion Week and the special exhibition of graduate works of Northeastern Electric Power University in Fashion and Apparel Design, which was guided by China Textile Industry Federation and the Teaching Guidance Committee of Design in Higher Education, sponsored by China Fashion Designers Association, China Fashion Association and China Textile and Apparel Education Society and organized by Northeastern Electric Power University College of Art The release party was held at 751D-PARK Beijing Fashion Design Plaza.

The School of Art of Northeastern Electric Power University has participated in China International Student Fashion Week for seven times. They have issued themes such as Manchu “Jilin Wula”, Nanai “Husadedu”, Mongols “Guoerluosi”, Korean “Jindalai by Songhua River” to explore the ethnic characteristics of the northeast region, and has been finding treasures from Chinese traditional ethnic culture for many years, winning unanimous praise from the industry.

The design work of this press conference is themed on “seeking”, seeking the origin, inheritance, and future. Through material innovation, color collision, style decomposition and pattern reorganization, the designers interpreted their understanding and perception of the combination of traditional culture and modernity from multiple dimensions, such as culture, aesthetics and function, and strived to present exquisite designs with the background and personal characteristics of the times by pursuing the language of clothing. The work integrates fashion elements, draws on traditional wisdom, and highlights the soft power of excellent traditional Chinese culture. Cross-thinking, diverse reconfiguration of design elements, diversified material extensions are used to find the beauty of the collision between tradition, technology and fashion.

This press conference showcased 89 works by 30 designers majoring in Clothing and Fashion Design at Northeast Electric Power University. The entire press conference is divided into two parts:

Part 1: Seeking for the Source

China has great etiquette, hence it is called Xia; “China has etiquette major called Xia, has served the chapter beauty that called Hua.” Clothing is one of the external manifestations of China traditional culture, which runs through the period of Three Emperors and Five Emperors until now. Clothing carries a heavy history and culture behind it, which is an important part of China’s culture for thousands of years. The works showcased by graduates of Northeast Electric Power University’s Clothing and Fashion Design major at the press conference are centered around the traditional ethnic and folk cultures of China, seeking their inherent origins. The work starts with auspiciousness and passes through numerous regions in China, including Beijing, Mongolia, Shanxi, Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangxi, Sichuan, Tibet, Gansu, and Shaanxi. It embodies the simplicity of Qin, the solemnity of Han, the elegance of Tang, the beauty of Song, the solemnity of Ming. Wide sleeves, fluttering sashes, and demeanor highlight the “country of clothes” and “beautiful China”. From design style to shape and tailoring to dynamic display, the works always explore regional cultural elements such as Han style of youth, northern nomadic, hundred seed pomegranate, Sanxingdui bronze, Folk New Year paintings, Jiangnan gardens, tea culture, Jiama culture, Nuo mask, Thangka, Dunhuang Flying Sky, Longyuan culture, Fengxiang clay sculpture, and show the state of etiquette with the clothes of the Han family.

Part 2: Seeking for the Future

Derived from the Y2K cultural characteristics of the millennium era, seeking inheritance and future. The work condenses the beauty of 5000 years of oriental traditional culture and clothing, innovates the essence of Chinese national costume patterns with metal materials, transparent PVC, fluorescent colors and other high-tech visual elements, depicts the vision of the future, shows the beauty of the Chinese national costume, and inherits the poetic East. The utopia of space, high-speed, high-tech, information technology, and highly developed showcases the collision between technology and fashion, highlighting traditional clothing. Looking for the shining treasures of past culture, seeking the perfect fusion of ancient, modern, and future, exploring the relationship between fashion, technology, and local elements and culture, not only showcasing the dazzling sparks of modern collision, but also delicately appreciating the beauty of Eastern elegance. Millennium’s designers let people feel the cultural confidence of a great nation and the superiority of oriental dress culture through their exquisite design works. In the process of promoting the national traditional dress culture, they use the language of fashionable dress and the poetry of cultural confidence to elaborate the road to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. 

The major relies on provincial-level research platforms such as the Jilin Province Key Field (Clothing Field) Research Base, Jilin Province Clothing Culture Research Center, Jilin Province University Innovation Team, Jilin Province Art Practice Teaching Demonstration Center, and has been approved as a first-class major in Jilin Province and a key characteristic major in Jilin Province’s higher education institutions. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of China International College Student Fashion Week, the outstanding graduates once again come to this stage to write a new chapter, shine brilliantly, pay tribute to ten years, and pursue glory.
